If you are anything like my family, you can take or leave beach sand. They are not alone which is evident on the faces of complete strangers as my child unknowingly traipsed sand across their beach towel that they have carefully arranged in preparation for some quality tanning time. Scowl. Shake. Shake. Shake. Arrange. Wait for the next random kid to run across. We have this problem in my family, most because of me. I am not the most careful when it comes to sitting on the blanket/towel and oftentimes my side is filled with sand and then I try to shake off a little bit here and there unsuccessfully. While flying on a plane one day I was bored enough to read the Skymall magazine and see the Sand-Free Multi-Rug/Mat and went online to buy it.
The mat is composed of multiple weave layers allowing the sand/dirt to go through the mat, leaving your sitting area clean. On the beach this summer we laid down the mat, and then in the middle laid the towels and they stayed sand free. The ends of the mat have holes where small stakes could be placed in the case of a windy day however the mat doesn’t come with the stakes included (could be a future improvement they should consider). When we were done entertaining ourselves on the beach, the mat folds up nicely into a carrying bag. Overall construction of the mat seems to be high quality and it is puts a random sheet to shame. For us, being sand free was worth the $50. Is it for you ?
